About Tanah Abang

History

There are several different versions of the origin of the name Tanah Abang. The first version, the name Tanah Abang comes from the word "Nabang" which is the name of a tree that grows in the area. Writing in the era of the Dutch East Indies in the 19th century was given the particle "De" to "De Nabang." Residents then called it "Tenabang."

In the second version, the name Tanah Abang is taken from the soil condition in the area that is red so that the term "Tanah Abang" in Java means red soil. While the third version calls Tanah Abang from "brother and sister" story. The brother built a house on his ground for his brother's residence. Then the area is now Tanah Abang.
